The end of the school year has arrived again and students beat the staff in the annual ball game. Everyone had a great time and Dave and Sandy made sure everyone was well fed! Staff and students said their goodbyes for the summer and now we will be getting ready for next year. We are sure next year will be even better than this one. A few pictures of the event help tell the story!
Graduation! Graduation! Graduation! Our park pavilion was overflowing with family and visitors wishing the best for our largest graduating class of seniors. We had 30 students graduating and over 200 family and friends at the celebration. Even with the chilly weather, everyone seemed to really enjoy the event and there were plenty of tears and smiles everywhere. The pictures can be ordered on a disk through Kim for $5.00 or you can just check them out here!

Multicultural Day was held on December 15th to celebrate diversity, promote peace and teach tolerance. We invited a variety of guest speakers to talk about their cultural background and experiences in the United States and elsewhere. Rajan Zed, from India, spoke about world religions and explained a little about Hinduism; Tarik Karaoglu, from Turkey, explained Islam and the connections between Muslims, Jews and Christians; Xiomare Rodriguez, from Puerto Rico, discussed the wide variety of customs and the interconnectedness of Hispanic culture; Becca, from the USAC at UNR talked about her foreign exchange experience in Costa Rica and her recent travels to Turkey; Rocky, a Piute Indian, discussed his personal experiences that took him away from and then back to his Native culture; Randy and Mandy, from UNR's GSA talked about acceptance and the GLBTQ community; and Gideon For-Mukwai, from Cameroon, shared photographs from different parts of Africa. After the students met with these wonderful guests, they shared foods from their own home traditions with each other and visited with our new friends in a more informal setting. Guests, students and staff were happy to connect with each other and look forward to new opportunities to share with each other again. Check it out!
The Holland Project provided support for our students to have their End of the Year Holiday Dance on 12-11-10. It was a lot of fun for all who came, great music and great friends! We really appreciated the Holland Project for helping make this happen.
We had our seventh annual art show December 9, 2010, and it was well attended. We were happy to see so many of our students also attend and watch their art being purchased. The culinary arts students made some wonderfully tasty cookies for everyone to enjoy and the coffee shop was open as well. There was some great art this year, as you can see in our photos.
MRD Global held the second annual Monster Mash as a fund raiser for Rainshadow. It was well attended and it looked like everyone had a blast! The participants had some great costumes and everyone seemed to enjoy the dance (check it out). There was also great food and prizes! Thanks to everyone at MRD and all who came.
The culinary arts program had their first guest chef for this year. Chef Alberto, from La Vecchia Restaurant, came and dazzled the students with one of his many creations. Students and some staff got to sample the food they made together, many students learned some new techniques and everyone had fun.
This summer, with a grant from NV Energy, we upgraded all of our lighting to be more energy efficient. We also changed our classroom lighting to full-spectrm, energy efficient lights which have proven to be a significant help to students in paying attention and learning with less stress.
The coffee shop is doing well and available from 7:30 to 12:00 M-F. Call for an order: 322-0449. Remember, what you buy here is tax free and is a donation to the school, helping to feed our students. Come check it out, you will be glad you did!
